Ramón y Cajal: Historia de una voluntad – Capítulo 3: Cajal en Cuba.

Cajal en su vejez y en su despacho escribe sus memorias: en 1874 su traslado al ejército expedicionario en Cuba y su estancia en esta tierra, donde cae gravemente enfermo. Su padre trata de disuadirle pero no lo consigue. Con cartas de presentación que le da su padre y que Cajal no utilizar desembarca en La Habana y en espera de destino se dedica a la fotografía y a la pintura. En Vista Hermosa, uno de los peores destinos, charla con un enfermo que después muere. Se siente deprimido y decepcionado: en lugar de aventuras ha encontrado miseria y conspiraciones. Pide el relevo. Comienza a estar bastante enfermo y recibe cartas de su novia desde Zaragoza. En ataque de los Mabises defiende el puesto con sus enfermos y después es trasladado a Puerto Príncipe, donde se recuperará de su anemia palúdica. No recibe su paga, por lo que se enfrentará al general Grau y más tarde, en su destino de San Isidro, al comandante del puesto por irregularidades en las comidas de los enfermos.

Cajal in old age at his study writes his memories: in 1874 his transfer to expeditionary army in Cuba and stay in this land, where falls seriously ill. His father tries to dissuade him but fails. With letters of introduction that his father gives him and he doesn't use, Cajal landed in Havana and in between assignments is dedicated to photography and painting. In Vista Hermosa, one of the worst locations, talk to a patient who later died. Feeling depressed and disappointed: instead of adventures found misery and conspiracies. He asks for relief. Begins to be quite ill and receives letters from his girlfriend of Zaragoza. In Mabises attack, defends the place with his patients and is then transferred to Port au Prince, where will recover from its malarial anemia. He doesn't get paid, so will face Grau and later at his destination at San Isidro, the commander of the post for irregularities in food for the sick.
